Can antibiotics cause a UTI?
Reviewed by Dr Jonah Mink, April 21'45 sec read
The vast majority of urinary tract infections (UTIs) are caused by bacteria and can be treated with antibiotics.
However, you might experience side effects from taking antibiotics. This could be a minor reaction, like a rash, or something more serious, such as severe diarrhoea, which could lead to serious illness.
Antibiotics are also known to kill “friendly” germs in the body, which can result in vaginal yeast infections.
If you have any concerns about taking antibiotics for a UTI, don’t hesitate to consult your GP or healthcare provider.
