What causes cloudy urine?
Reviewed by Dr Jonah Mink, April 21'30 sec read
In a healthy individual, urine should be a pale yellow colour and appear clear. Darker, cloudy, bloody or frothy urine can be a sign of a physical change or ill health.
Darker urine is often a result of dehydration. This can be resolved by increasing the amount of water you drink to replenish your fluids.
Urine can appear cloudy due to the presence of pus in a urinary infection, protein due to kidney damage, or high levels of minerals if a kidney stone has formed.
Cloudy urine can also occur if your diet is high in phosphorus or vitamin D.
