Is cloudy urine a sign of UTI?
Reviewed by Dr Jonah Mink, April 21'30 sec read
Cloudy urine is a common sign of a UTI, but it can be caused by other factors, too.
When bacteria are present in the bladder, the body mounts an immune response to fight the infection. Inflammation leads to the presence of pus. When pus combines with urine, it creates pyuria which has a cloudy appearance. With a UTI, other symptoms including pain or burning on urination, fever, lower abdominal pain and nausea or vomiting are commonly experienced.
If these symptoms are absent, cloudy urine could be caused by another condition such as kidney stones, diabetes, or dehydration.
